    Great Video and comments below. Looking to sew one for my wayfarer also.I had a question regarding the tent design - when moored to a buoy or at anchor, do you find that your boat swings over a wide range due to windage on the front part of the tent conpared to a tent that where the front (slanted) part is further back - around where the mast is seated as opposed to from the bow ?

    • @SATSelectChoice
      @SATSelectChoice 19 дней назад

      I dont keep it on a mooring. When anchored out I often have bow and stern anchors set so swing in not an issue. The boat does want to wander though. When I do want it to swing, I often set a small stern anchor with just a few few more scope then needed to reach the bottom. This acts more like a drag to slow the swing down and dampen it. I have also experimented with stern-to anchoring with just a little roller furled jib out to act as a riding sail. It worked well- much less swinging, though you do get more wave slap on the bottom of the boat.

    Hello Dan, fellow older Wayfarer owner here mine is a 1974 MK II sail #3971. I purchased my Wayfarer in 1991 for $1000 from a relative my sailing range is on Lake Erie and inland lakes in Ohio. Although I sailed on the Gulf of Main in 2007 for one week. My boat was factory rigged with a main sheet traveler system and outboard jib sheeting. Also my boat doesn’t have the class mast and boom so it cannot be raced which doesn’t bother me. My boat is gently used on fresh water and mostly stored indoors so it has held up well. The last 4 years where tough on it since I lost my indoor storage and it was outside all the time. Last summer I completely stripped the trailer down and ground the paint and rust off then painted and rewired using LED lights. Put new tires and wheels the completely rebuilt the hubs. Currently I’m revarnishing all of the wood then I’m going to attempt some gel coat repair. I may plan an early spring trip to St. Pete next year to coincide with a visit with my family there. Good to see the work and sailing you are doing.

    I've worked out what I think is the final and best method. After making the pouch by tying in the second reef front and back, I flake the sail back and forth first inside then outside the pocket. This makes nice neat falkes which are then easily and neatly rolleb up and tied off. The sail can be completely down during this process which is an improvement especailly in windy conditions.

    After deciding what features needed in a boat, one should also consider the joy and satisfaction of building your own wooden boat from a kit or, even better, from scratch.

    • @SATSelectChoice
      @SATSelectChoice 4 месяца назад

      Mark I would not recommend it for a first boat. You are bound to be wrong about your first boat- not enough experience to really know the mission it will server. So you spend a year or more building just to find out you dont have the right boat, and if you are lucky you can sell your boat for the cost of materials (probably less) and it will take another 6 months for new owner and boat to find each other.

    • @SATSelectChoice
      @SATSelectChoice 7 месяцев назад

      I dont tend to camp in urban areas as a rule. Also Day 1 on EC you should make at least the first checkpoint at Stump Pass. There is good camping there on either side of Peterson Island to the N just after entering the pass. A little farther soth is Rampler Hole. Just pass Bocca Grande Causeway is Dog Island, then Hoagen Key, then Cayo Costa, Fosters Bay, maybe Chino Island, Picnic Island (that is the end of Pine Island Sound)next is Estero Bay/Lovers Key, coouple of good anchorages Marco Pass to Goodland if you go inside. Then you are into the 10 thousand Islands area, and I have a video for that which I will link. I'll make a quick crude map with these locations on it too.

    • @SATSelectChoice
      @SATSelectChoice Год назад

      One end of the strap is secured to the bottom edge of the tent and reinforced with a triangular path to distribute the load. The other end of the strap has one half of a buckle (the adjustable half). The other half of the buckle is sewn into the tent about 16" up from the bottom of the tent (on the inside) with a small loop of strap sewn in with a reinforcement patch to spread the load on that end. The loose strap attached on the bottom is run through the strap around the hull then back up inside the tent and buckled to the attachment point 16" up the tent. After all are attached the straps are pulled tight in the buckles to tension the tent.
